Bruton, Somerset is home, headquarters and inspiration station to Godminster shop- a brand that’s been making legendary cheeses for 25 years. Blending the  flavour and folklore of Wessex to create magnificent organic cheese.

The farm wasn’t always organic. Richard, the owner, decided the only way forward as guardians of their patch of Somerset countryside was organic. It took two years and a great deal of help from friends and family to make the transition to organic. To thank to everyone who supported the journey, Richard turned Godminster’s organic milk into cheese, waxing each one as a gift. The feedback he received from the cheese was renound and soon the cheeses were selling out at local farmers’ markets. Thus began the Godminster brand. The first cheese to come to market, 25 years ago, was the Vintage Bruton Beauty, which remains a bestseller to this day.

Godminster’s mantra is simple: nature repays those who treat her kindly. Organic farming lies at the heart of that philosophy. Farm Manager, Peter Cheek who has overseen the herd since 1998, attests to the herds health and happiness. Using a three- way crossbreeding system, the farm produces a robust hybrid cow with higher fertility, fewer health issues and the resilience  to graze outdoors in all weathers.

Organic principles produce the rich, smooth milk that gives Godminster cheeses their character- soft, flavourful and renowned across the country and overseas. From Somerset’s rolling hills to tables nationwide and internationally, Godminster continues to blend tradition, care and a touch of folklore into every bite.
